My name is Dan Merrill from Byron, Illinois. I am a senior majoring in PD Bio with the intent to enter medical school in 2015. I joined Dr. Arroyo's lab in August of 2012 studying the effects of hypoxia on the reproductive system of rats. I am now looking at ways to reverse the affects of Preeclampsia and Intrauterine Growth Restriction (IUGR). I love working in Dr. Arroyo's lab because of the implications that our research may have on the future of reproductive medicine. We find causes of birth defects and try to reverse them. This may just help future mothers and even my wife one day. I look forward to a future career in medicine and in helping the sick and afflicted.
I am a senior majoring in PD Bio with the intent to go to PA school in 2015. I have been in Dr. Arroyo's lab since January 2013 and have really enjoyed it. It has been great working with Dr. Arroyo because he really cares for his students and wants us to learn, grow and gain experience. I am from Escondido, California and have lived there for my whole life (well except while on my mission and while here at BYU). I served my mission in Tokyo, Japan and there, I developed a love for all kinds of ethnic foods. Food is a fast and easy way to my heart. I have always loved my local sports teams (Padres, Chargers, and Lakers/Clippers) even though they do not always do well. I am no fair-weather fan!
My name is Matthew Price from Salt Lake City, Utah. I am a sophomore majoring in Public health and hoping to be headed to medical school come 2015. I joined Dr. Arroyo’s lab in June of 2012 and I love it! Dr. Arroyo’s excitement about the research he is doing generates excitement in us as well. Dr. Arroyo is always providing ways to help us learn, grow, and to gain valuable experience that we can implement in our studies now and also use in our future careers.
I am a junior majoring in Computer Science, and was born and raised in Payette, Idaho. I joined Dr. Arroyo’s lab in August of 2012 because of the exciting opportunity to participate in research in a true lab setting. I love that scientific research instills problem-solving skills that are applicable to many facets of life outside of the lab, and it excites me to try to find ways to improve life. After finishing school, I hope to work in medicine or another closely related field.
I was born and raised in Concord, MA but recently moved to Alpine, Utah. Since freshman year of high school i have played lacrosse and play midfield for BYU. I am studying PDBio, in my second year and served in the Ukraine, Donetsk mission from 2011-2013. I am the middle child of seven: three older sisters and three younger brothers. I love doing research and hope to attend medical school after graduating from BYU. I will be married January 3, 2014 to the love of my life, Eleanor.
I am currently in my junior year here at BYU majoring in Biophysics. I started working in Dr. Arroyo's lab in December of 2012. When I graduate I want to go to law school and possibly pursuit a career in patent law. When I have some free time away from my studies I like hangout with my friends and eating. I also like to go hiking and enjoying the outdoors.
I am a microbiology major and interested in medicine. I am a junior and plan to graduate in April 2015. My wife, Abigayle and I are expecting our first child, a boy, at the end of this year!
My name is Montana Wayment and I am a Junior here at BYU. I am majoring in public Health and want to work in the medical field. I enjoy working with people and anything that has to do with making peoples lives better. I am from a small town in the Ogden Valley called Liberty Utah. Growing up I have always loved snow skiing, waterskiing on the local reservoir, camping, horseback riding, scuba diving, traveling and reading anything I can get my hands on. I love the experiences that I have gotten while attending BYU and all of the amazing people I have met.
I am majoring in Humanities and emphasizing in Foreign Literature. I am a Junior, and I love the intersection between science and the humanities. I am fascinated by human developmental biology. Life is a miracle! I love reading (especially Latin American and Spanish Literature, and philosophy), going to art museums, watching the Chicago Bulls, and, of course, working in the lab!
I'm from Chicago and I'm majoring in Physiology and Developmental Biology. I'm planning on continuing my education in either medical school or as a researcher. I joined Dr. Arroyo's lab in spring semester of 2013 and I've loved it so far, I am fascinated and motived by the fact that the work we are doing now can eventually aid people in the future! I love snowboarding/being fit, spending time with family and my bro (big shoutout to Camilo), and working in the lab.
Win The Day!
I am a first year PhD student studying Physiology and Developmental Biology. Other than spending time in the lab, I enjoy spending time with my husband by watching movies, playing Uno and preparing for the arrival of our son in January!
